Synopsis. A key charm of a chess horse puts Erskine on the trail of Major Jan Anka (played by Michael Rennie), a Communist spy—and master chess player—who has assumed the identity of Albert Robinson, an American chess champion who died in a prison in German-occupied Amsterdam more than twenty years before. Anka’s cover is jeopardized when Robinson’s long-lost daughter, Janet Sinclair (Julie Sommars), arrives in search of her father. Erskine and Colby must protect Janet from Anka while also recovering microfilm plans that were stolen from a U.S. missile development company.
