If you watch The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel on Amazon Prime, you know Caroline Aaron as Shirley Maisel, Midge’s eccentric but well meaning mother-in-law—and the creator of one of the most convoluted bookkeeping systems ever known to man. Season 4 of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel is up for several Emmy Awards next week, while the fifth and final season of Mrs. Maisel is scheduled for release later in 2022.
Caroline Aaron has described her experience on The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel as “the gift that keeps on giving.” We’ll ask her what she means by that, plus she’ll tell us about Chanshi, a new comedy series that Caroline filmed in Israel earlier this year with Happy Days star Henry Winkler. Caroline Aaron will join us in our second hour.
The first four seasons of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel are available for viewing on demand on Amazon Prime Video. The 74th Prime Time Emmy Awards air Monday, Sept. 12 on NBC and Peacock.
Also this week: We will welcome renowned vegan chef Josie Clemens. If you’re a fan of Hell’s Kitchen on FOX, you’ll remember Josie as the first vegan chef to participate on that popular cooking competition show (which she did in 2020). While being on Hell’s Kitchen posed a lot of challenges for Chef Josie—particularly because chefs on that show must take turns cooking on the meat and fish stations as part of the competition—she met those challenges head on, earning the respect of Gordon Ramsay and her fellow chef competitors, while also using her experience on Hell’s Kitchen to promote her belief in the importance of a vegan lifestyle.
Fast forward to 2022: Chef Josie has now taken that experience to the next level. She is the co-creator and head judge on Peeled, the very first all-vegan cooking competition show, and the first cooking competition show to feature an all-vegan cast. The first episode of Peeled will be streamed live on Saturday, Sept. 24 at 9pm ET 6pm PT at PeeledShow.com. The entire first season of Peeled will then become available for viewing on demand Sunday, Sept. 25 on Unchained TV. (You can find the Unchained TV channel on Roku, Apple TV, and your Amazon Fire Stick.) Josie Clemens will join us in our second hour.
If you listen to us in Southern California, or plan on being in L.A. in late September, you can attend the premiere night festivities for Peeled, which will take place Saturday, Sept. 24 at the Directors Guild of America, 7920 Sunset Blvd. in Los Angeles, CA beginning at 4pm. Guests will have an opportunity to meet Chef Josie and the entire cast of Peeled while also enjoying beer, wine, spirits, plus vegan hors d’oeuvres crafted by the show’s contestants. Check out PeeledShow.com for more information.
Plus: We’ll play Part 2 of a conversation that began last week with voice artist, television announcer, and biographer Randy West.
Randy’s new book, TV Inside Out, is an empathetic look into the mystery (and occasional misery) of television stardom, and how some TV performers, such as Dom DeLuise, managed to overcome the trappings of stardom and maintain a happy, functional, and satisfying life. Among other things, Randy will tell us the story of how Dom DeLuise helped get The Newlywed Game on the air. Randy West will join us in our first hour.
