This week’s show will include a return appearance by Louise Sorel, the actress known around the world as Vivian Alamain on Days of Our Lives, Augusta Lockridge on Santa Barbara, and other memorable villainous characters.
You’ll recall that when she visited us earlier this year, Louise mentioned that she was working on several writing projects, including a series of essays about New York. She will share a few of those works with us, plus she’ll pay tribute to two of her longtime colleagues on Days, Peggy McCay and Joseph Mascolo. Louise Sorel will join us in our second hour.
Also this week: We will welcome back actor, author, and publisher James Rosin.
Jim’s books include behind-the-scenes oral histories of Naked City, Peyton Place, Route 66, The Streets of San Francisco, Quincy, and other great shows from the 1960s and 1970s, while his memoir, People, Places & Me, reflects on his life as a working actor in L.A. and New York, and the many moments of encouragement that he received along the way.
Jim recently published The Many Faces of Nehemiah, the memoirs of Nehemiah Persoff, one of the greatest and most versatile character actors of the twentieth century. Persoff turned 102 in August 2021, a distinction that probably makes him the oldest living Hollywood actor today. While Nehemiah retired from acting thirty years ago, he did not stop being a creative person—he spent the next twenty-five years of his life painting and sketching, while the last two years have seen him focus more on writing, including a new play and The Many Faces of Nehemiah. Jim also has a personal connection to Nehemiah Persoff; we’ll talk about that, and more, when James Rosin joins us in our first hour.
Our first hour will include Part 2 of a conversation that began last week with Phil Rosenzweig, professor at both Harvard Business School and IMD business school, and the author of Reginald Rose and The Journey of 12 Angry Men—the first biography of Reginald Rose, one of the first great voices in television, and the screenwriter and producer of 12 Angry Men (1957), the iconic motion picture starring Henry Fonda that began as a one-hour drama for that Rose wrote for the CBS anthology series Westinghouse Studio One. We’ll talk about some of the differences between the movie and the original TV production, including the back story of one of the most famous scenes in the movie.
