Known for the memorable villains she has played on daytime television, including Vivian Alamain on Days of Our Lives and Augusta Lockridge on Santa Barbara, Louise Sorel has also left her mark on prime time television many times throughout her career, including starring roles on Ladies Man (opposite Lawrence Pressman and Herb Edelman) and The Don Rickles Show (the stand-up comedian’s first network TV sitcom), plus guest appearances on just about every major prime time show throughout the ’60s, ’70s, and ’80s, including The Fugitive (as Richard Kimble’s sister-in-law), Route 66, Charlie’s Angels, Night Gallery, Magnum, p.i., the original Star Trek (as Rayna in “Requiem for Methuselah”), as well as such Movies of the Week as The Girl Who Came Gift-Wrapped and the pilot for Get Christie Love!

Louise Sorel has developed a number of writing projects in recent years. We’ll ask her about that, plus she’ll share a few memories of her career on stage, film, and television when she joins us in our second hour.

Speaking of Star Trek, our first hour will include Part 2 of the conversation that began last week with Marc Cushman about the making of Star Trek: The Motion Picture, including the back story of the iconic score composed by Jerry Goldsmith (and why Gene Roddenberry later chose to use it as the theme for Star Trek: The Next Generation). Marc’s latest book, These Are the Voyages: Gene Roddenberry and Star Trek in the 1970s, is a three-volume history of Star Trek/biography of Gene Roddenberry that chronicles the ten-year period spanning the cancellation of the original series in 1969 through the making and release of Star Trek: The Motion Picture in 1979. All three volumes are available through Jacobs Brown Media Group and include production reports, ratings, memos written by Gene Roddenberry, vintage press coverage, plus many original interviews by Marc Cushman himself.

Also this week: We’ll play Greg Ehrbar’s interview with Emmy nominated and Annie Award-winning writer, director, storyboard artist, and voice actor C.H. Greenblatt (Spongebob Squarepants, Chowder, Harvey Beaks). C.H. is the creator and executive producer of Jellystone!, the new animated series that not only marks the first series starring Yogi Bear in thirty years, but features just about every cartoon character in the Hanna-Barbera library (including Boo Boo, Huckleberry Hound, Top Cat, The Banana Splits, Captain Caveman, Jabberjaw, and even Jonny Quest and Hadji), all somehow coexisting in the same universe.

While Jellystone! is not a nostalgia show, and the humor and artwork is more reminiscent of Family Guy and other modern-day toons, Greenblatt sees the series as a love letter to the various Hanna-Barbara series that we all grew up watching. He’ll talk about balancing his desire to pay homage to his favorite H-B characters while also staying true to the show he wanted to make, as well as the challenges of producing the series under COVID restrictions. We’ll play Greg’s conversation with C.H. Greenblatt in our first hour.

The first ten episodes of Jellystone! are available for streaming on demand right now on HBO Max; another ten will be released later in the year.
