Naomi Matsuda received her first Emmy nomination earlier this month for her performance as the strong-willed Li Finnegan on CBS’ The Bold and the Beautiful. A professional actress since 1997, Naomi began training in traditional Japanese dance at age seven, then began dance training in jazz and ballet at age thirteen. She then danced in any cabaret style shows, music videos, and theatrical dance concerts throughout Southern California before turning her attention to acting. Naomi’s other screen credits include The X Files, The Comeback, American Crime Story, All American, and a brief stint on Days of Our Lives.
Naomi Matsuda will join us in our second hour.
Also joining us for our conversation with Naomi Matsuda will be fashion designer and entrepreneur Ginger Che. Ginger designed the lotus flower-themed gown and ensemble that Naomi will wear on Friday, June 24 at the 49th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards—but that’s only half the story. Ginger and Naomi have been each other’s best friend for more than thirty years. Not only that, but Naomi wearing one of Ginger’s creations at a major red carpet event like the Daytime Emmy Awards will be the culmination of one of the many dreams that Naomi and Ginger have shared together throughout their journey as friends. We’ll talk about that, and more, in our second hour.
The 49th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards will be broadcast on Friday, June 24 on CBS and streamed on Paramount+. The Bold and the Beautiful airs weekdays on CBS.
Our second hour will also include a conversation with Da’Jour Jones, a rising young actor whose film and TV credits include Signs of Love, Power, The Divorce, and That Damn Michael Che. Da’Jour is one of the stars of Players, the new comedic documentary-style series from Paramount+ about a team of eSports players who must put their egos aside and work together as they pursue their first league championship.
Players is now available for streaming on demand on Paramount+ .
Also this week: Chuck Harter will join us for the first of two programs that will celebrate the life and career of Elvis Presley.
With the highly anticipated biopic Elvis opening in theaters this week, Chuck will take a look at some of the other notable portrayals of The King in movies and on television, including Kurt Russell in Elvis (ABC, 1979), the short-lived but critically acclaimed weekly series Elvis starring Michael St. Gerard (ABC, 1990), Elvis Meets Nixon, and more.
Chuck helped produced I, Elvis, a three-part look at the life and career of The King that originally aired in 1992 on the syndicated magazine series Hard Copy. While working on this project, Chuck interviewed and got to know several members of the Memphis Mafia, including Charlie Hodge, Lamar Fike, Sonny West, Marty Lacker, Jerry Schilling, and Billy Smith. As a result, he has first-hand knowledge of Elvis from the people who knew him best. Chuck will share some of those stories when he joins us in our first hour.
Chuck Harter will perform an evening of music at Sideshow Books, 1639 La Cienega Blvd. in Los Angeles on Saturday, July 23 beginning at 8pm.
