Rich Little, America’s Master Mimic, will join us this weekend as TV Confidential launches its fifteenth season on the air. Arguably the most famous impressionist in the world, Rich’s arsenal of voices include such classic movie stars as John Wayne, Jimmy Stewart, Jack Lemmon, Cary Grant, and George Burns; Baby Boomer favorites such as Clint Eastwood, Jack Nicholson, Paul Lynde, Andy Rooney, William Devane, and Kermit the Frog; the King of Late Night Television, Johnny Carson; and every U.S. president since John F. Kennedy.
Rich Little can be seen every Thursday thru Sunday at the Tropicana/Laugh Factory, 3801 S. Las Vegas Blvd in Las Vegas. For tickets and more information, call 702-739-2411 or visit TropLV.com or TheRichLittle.com.
Rich Little is also the author of People I’ve Known and Been, a collection of stories and anecdotes of some of the many notable showbiz figures and politicians that he has impersonated over the years. Now available online, and recently updated with more than 200 pages of new material, People I’ve Known and Been also features more than 100 photographs (many of which are in color) plus some of Rich’s favorite original charcoal sketches. All proceeds from sales of People I’ve Known and Been will support U.S. veterans, by way of the Gary Sinise Foundation.
This week’s show will also include a return appearance by filmmaker, director, screenwriter, and novelist Julian David Stone. Julian’s latest novel, It’s Alive!, is a page-turning work of historical fiction based on the actual events behind the scenes of the making of the original Frankenstein movie that Carl Laemmle Jr. produced for Universal Studios in 1931.
The 1931 Frankenstein made a star out of Boris Karloff while also ushering in the great era of Universal Monster movies. And yet, even though the box office success of Dracula earlier in 1931 clearly showed that movie audiences had an appetite for horror films, no one at Universal, except Carl Laemmle Jr., wanted to see Frankenstein made. It’s Alive! brings that story to life, so to speak, while also capturing the vibrant, exciting, and often chaotic days of 1930s Hollywood and weaving in such actual figures as Bela Lugosi, director James Whale, legendary gossip columnist Louella Parsons, and Boris Karloff himself. Julian David Stone joins us in our first hour.
It’s Alive is available in hardcover, as an eBook, and as an audiobook through Greenleaf Book Group and Amazon.com.
Julian David Stone’s other books include No Cameras Allowed: My Career as an Outlaw Rock ’n’ Roll Photographer: 1981-1987, the amazing story of how Julian managed to sneak camera equipment into rock concerts over a six-year period during the mid 1980s (and, along the way, amassed a collection of more than 10,000 up-close-and-personal photographs of some of the biggest rock stars of the era), and The Strange Birth, Short life, and Sudden Death of Justice Girl, a historical novel based in the world of the 1950s live television that is currently being developed into a TV series.
