Our second hour will include a return visit by actress, author, and philanthropist Ruta Lee, the legendary grande dame of Hollywood whose career spans the Golden Age of Hollywood, the Golden Age of Television, and on through the digital age. Also one of the hardest working entertainers in showbiz history, Ruta cultivated both her work ethic and her instincts for business as a result of her immigrant parents. We’ll talk about that, plus Ruta will share a few more stories about her movie and TV career. We will also give away a copy of her memoir, Consider Your Ass Kissed, when Ruta Lee joins us in our second hour.
Ruta Lee’s memoir, Consider Your Ass Kissed, is a treasure trove of stories, anecdotes, and reminisces of her stage, film, and television career, which includes such co-stars as Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Julie Newmar, Debbie Reynolds, Alex Trebek, Lucille Ball, Fred Astaire, Phyllis Diller, and too many others to mention. Consider Your Ass Kissed is available right now at Amazon.com, BarnesandNoble.com, as well as your local bookseller. Autographed editions of Ruta’s book are now available at the historic Larry Edmunds Bookshop in Hollywood and can be ordered right now at LarryEdmunds.com.
Fans of NBC’s This is Us know James Moses Black as Reverend Hawley, the neighborhood preacher/counselor who inspires Randall Pearson to run for office, plus you’ve seen him in such other movies and TV series as Snowfall, Bayou Caviar, Alex and Me, and Black and Blue. James stars as a U.S. Army colonel who develops super highly intelligent mutant fighting machines in S.O.Z.: Soldados o Zombies, the new post-apocalyptic horror series about a drug kingpin who escapes from a high-security Mexican prison, only to encounter deadly mutant zombies while hiding out on the U.S. side of the border. S.O.Z.: Soldados o Zombies is now available for viewing on demand at Amazon Prime. James also has a supporting role in Lansky, the new biopic starring Harvey Keitel as legendary crime boss Meyer Lansky (available now for streaming on demand on all major streaming platforms), while he’ll soon be seen opposite Kristen Bell and Vince Vaughn in the feature motion picture Queenpins. James Moses Black will join us in our first hour.
Also in our first hour: We will celebrate the life and career of Hal Holbrook, the legendary actor who passed away earlier this year at the age of ninety-five. Though perhaps best known around the world for his one-man show, Mark Twain Tonight (which he performed before audiences nonstop for sixty-three years), Holbrook was also an incredibly versatile actor who left his mark in movies and on television, including All The President’s Men (as Deep Throat), Sandburg’s Lincoln (as Abraham Lincoln), Evening Shade, The Senator, Pueblo, Into the Wild, and the groundbreaking made-for-TV movie That Certain Summer.
Our friend and colleague Mark Dawidziak knew Hal Holbrook for more than thirty-five years. Mark will share a few memories of his friendship with Holbrook, while also shedding light on how the actor brought Mark Twain alive as a complex artist and insightful social critic whose comments on the human condition are as relevant today as ever. Mark Dawidziak will join us in our first hour.
