This week’s program will include Part 2 of a conversation that began last week with Donna Mills, the Emmy Award-winning actress known around the world as Abby Ewing on Knots Landing and Madeline Reeves on General Hospital. Dec. 27, 2019 marks the fortieth anniversary of the premiere on Knots Landing on CBS. We’ll talk to Donna about the legacy of Knots, plus we’ll ask her about some of her other movie and TV roles, including working with Clint Eastwood and Jessica Walter in Play Misty for Me. Donna Mills will join us in our second hour.
Donna Mills currently stars, along with Lee Purcell, Geri Jewell, Donna Pescow, RJ Mitte, and Andrea F. Friedman, in Carol of the Bells, the award-winning holiday-themed drama produced and directed by Joey Travolta and his company, Inclusion Films. Carol of the Bells will be released soon for viewing on demand. Donna can also be seen in Christmas Wishes and Mistletoe Kisses (which airs throughout the holiday season on the Hallmark Channel), plus she is one of the cast members of Turnover, the award-winning comedy drama directed by Linda Palmer that becomes available on DVD in December. You can also see Donna in Mood Swings, a new comedy series from the streaming service Pure Flix. New episodes of Mood Swings premiere Thursdays on Pure Flix. In addition, she owns and operates—along with her partner, Larry Gilman—Mandeville Vineyards, the first, and only, producer of estate-grown and bottled Malbec in Los Angeles, including an award-winning 2016 Reserve Malbec/Cabernet Blend.
Also this week: We will play Part 2 of our conversation with James DuMont (The Righteous Gemstones, Men of a Certain Age, Trumbo, Dallas Buyers Club, The Butler), the prolific film and TV actor who is also a descendant of one of the pioneers of television. James’ great-uncle Allen DuMont created the cathode ray tube, the picture tube that not only made TV sets possible, but ushered in the entire industry of television itself—including the short-lived DuMont television network, the often forgotten “fourth network” that introduced such stars as Jackie Gleason during the Golden Age of Television.
James will soon be seen opposite Mark Wahlberg in Wonderland—the forthcoming Netflix feature, directed by Peter Berg, that is based on Robert B. Parker’s Wonderland, the forty-first entry in the Spenser mystery novel series that Parker began in 1973, and which Ace Atkins has continued in the years since Parker’s death in 2010. Wonderland is scheduled for release in early 2020. We’ll ask James about shooting the movie on location in Boston, and how Mark Wahlberg’s Spenser compares that of Robert Urich in the Spenser: For Hire television series. Plus we’ll talk about Designed to Kill, a thought-provoking independent feature that James has in the works, and a few of his other film and TV roles. James DuMont will also join us in our second hour.
