Viewers of NBC’s This is Us know James Moses Black as Reverend Hawley, the neighborhood preacher/counselor who inspires Randall Pearson (Sterling K. Brown’s character) to run for office, while James’ other screen credits include Get Smart (with Steve Carell), Bayou Cavier (with Richard Dreyfuss and Cuba Gooding Jr.), the History Channel miniseries Roots, plus episodes of Nashville, Cold Case, 24, NCIS: New Orleans, Grey’s Anatomy, The Unit, The Practice, Ugly Betty, Entourage, Dexter, and the upcoming Amazon series Operation 8888.

James can soon be seen as Deacon Brown, the rogue cop who plays a prominent role in Black and Blue, the new Screen Gems crime drama starring Oscar nominee Naomie Harris that may remind you a little of Training Day. Brown is a morally complex character. We’ll ask James how he approached playing such a man, plus we’ll talk about This is Us, and more. James Moses Black will join us in our second hour.

Black and Blue opens in theaters everywhere on Friday, Oct. 25.

Also this week: Author Cathy Fitzgibbon-Rudolph will join us as we look back at the life and career of Paul Lynde, the actor/comedian whom all of us remember as Uncle Arthur on Bewitched, Harry MacAfee in Bye Bye Birdie, the voice of countless cartoon characters in such films as Charlotte’s Web and many of the shows produced by Hanna Barbera, and, of course, for more than ten years, the irrepressible center square on The Hollywood Squares.

Few people were as naturally funny as Paul Lynde, and few people could make the whole world laugh like he could. But behind the trademark sneer and impeccable comic timing, Lynde was a troubled soul who was never satisfied with his career, despite achieving his lifelong goal of fame and fortune. And though many (including Cathy Fitzgibbon-Rudolph) knew Lynde as a good friend, he never found the happiness that comes from a long-term loving relationship.

Cathy’s book, Paul Lynde: A Biography: His Life, His Loves & His Laughter, is an intimate portrait of the actor/comedian that walks you through the many highlights of Lynde’s career on stage, film and television, while also exploring the many tragedies that befell him and the fears that gripped him throughout his life. Cathie knew Paul Lynde for the last five years of his life, so she writes with authority. But she also includes memories from many of Lynde’s family members, friends, and peers, including Peter Marshall, Chita Rivera, Woody Woodbury, the late Kaye Ballard and Florence Henderson, Hollywood Squares writer/producer Les Roberts and many others. The book also includes many never before published photographs. Cathy Fitzgibbon-Rudolph will join us in our first hour.

Plus: We will play more highlights from the Sept. 25 ceremony at the Hollywood Museum that unveiled the new lobby exhibit honoring Dawn Wells and the legacy of Gilligan’s Island, including exclusive interviews with some of that evening’s special guests.
