Daphne Maxwell Reid’s many film and TV credits include The Fresh Prince of Bel Air (as Aunt Viv), Sister, Sister, Jacqueline and Jilly, Simon and Simon, WKRP in Cincinnati, and Frank’s Place. Daphne’s acting career, however, is just one of the many colors in the tapestry of her life and career. She is also an accomplished photographer, clothes designer, seamstress, educator, activist, producer, and the author of several books.

Daphne recently participated in the cast reunion of The Fresh Prince of Bel Air that will premiere on HBO Max on Thursday, Nov. 19. She also stars in The Business of Christmas, a new holiday movie that will premiere on BET+ on Tuesday, Dec. 1 (with additional airings throughout December). Daphne Maxwell Reid will join us in our second hour.

Also in our second hour: We will play Part 2 of our conversation that began last week with groundbreaking comedian Tom Dreesen. Tom will provide some insight on how to find your own voice as a stand-up comedian, plus he’ll share the invaluable advice that Jack Benny once gave Tom early in his career.

Tom Dreesen’s memoir, Still Standing: My Journey from Streets and Saloons to the Stage, and Sinatra, not only includes great stories of Tom’s working with Tim Reid, Sammy Davis Jr., and Frank Sinatra, but shows readers why his roots in Harvey, Illinois have always been central to his life and career.

Also this week: We will welcome Emmy-nominated writer, producer, actor and playwright Billy Van Zandt.  As a playwright Billy, along with his longtime writing and producer Jane Millmore, co-wrote twenty-five plays that have been produced many times over throughout the world, including Silent Laughter, You’ve Got Hate Mail, Drop Dead! and The Boomer Boys Musical. As a producer Billy received an Emmy nomination for his work on I Love Lucy: The Very First Show, the acclaimed CBS special that not only introduced TV audiences to the lost pilot episode of I Love Lucy, but was the first show that showed viewers what a genius Desi Arnaz was, and how the many innovations he originated are now standard practice in television today. Billy also received a People’s Choice Award, a Prism Award and two NAACP Image Awards for producing Martin and The Hughleys, while his other writing and production credits include Newhart, Anything But Love, Daddy Dearest, Suddenly Susan, and The Wayans Brothers.

Billy’s memoir, Get in the Car, Jane! Adventures in the TV Wasteland, not only provides a front row seat to the absurdity that often goes on behind the scenes of network TV sitcoms, but provides useful tips on how to deal with the day-to-day frustrations of your job, no matter what you do for a living. Billy Van Zandt will join us in our first hour.

Our first hour will also include a return visit by game show historian and TV host Steve Beverly (Steve Beverly’s TV Classics). In light of the recent passing of Alex Trebek, we’ll ask Steve for his thoughts on who might become the next host of Jeopardy!, as well as the particular challenges that Trebek’s successor may face (depending on who is named). Steve Beverly’s TV Classics will pay tribute to the early game show career of Alex Trebek on Saturday, Nov. 21 on EPlusTV6.com.

NOTE. TV Confidential will air a formal tribute to Alex Trebek on our Dec. 4-6 program.
