We hope to bring some joy to you and yours this Easter and Passover weekend with a program that includes a conversation with singer, actress, and songwriter Roslyn Kind. The younger sister of Barbra Streisand, Roslyn has left her own mark in all facets of entertainment over the past four decades, from critically acclaimed recordings to sold-out performances on Broadway and in top concert venues and nightclubs, and appearances on such network shows as Gimme a Break, The Nanny, and Saturday Night Live.
Through the encouragement of friends, fans and family, Roslyn has released the digital singles of “Save the Country” and “Light of Love,” two songs that are not only very uplifting, but have particular significance for Roslyn, both as a female and as an American. Roslyn Kind will join us in our first hour.
This week’s program will also include Part 2 of a conversation that began last week with Howard Storm, Robin Williams’ regular director during the first three seasons of Mork & Mindy. Though he did not set out to become a director, Howard helmed multiple episodes of such top network shows as
Laverne & Shirley, Everybody Loves Raymond, Kenan and Kel, Fish, Rhoda, ALF, and Angie. We’ll talk about the path that led Howard behind the camera when he joins us in our first hour.
Howard’s memoir, The Imperfect Storm: From Henry Street to Hollywood, is available through Bear Manor Media. Co-hosting the segment will be Steve Stoliar, author of Raised Eyebrows: My Years Inside Groucho’s House and Howard’s collaborator on The Imperfect Storm.
Our second hour will include an encore presentation of our conversation from April 2019 with film and television actor and renowned acting coach Kirk Taylor. Kirk began his screen career more than thirty years ago with a role in Francis Ford Coppola’s The Cotton Club, while his many students as an acting teacher include such stars as Jesse L. Martin, Karina Lombard, and Chandra Wilson. A student of both Lee Strasberg and Stella Adler, Kirk seemed content with teaching until opportunity stepped in and he was offered the part of Simon Peter, the apostle who denied Jesus, in Revival! The Experience, a new musical film based on the Gospel According to John. That, plus a leap of faith, opened the door for Kirk to a “second act” as a performer that continues to this day.
Kirk’s renaissance as an actor is only half the story. In many respects, his entire life story is a miracle in every sense of the word. You’ll understand what we mean when we replay our conversation with Kirk Taylor in our second hour.
Produced by and starring Harry Lennix, Revival! also features Chaka Khan, Michelle Williams, T’Keyah Crystal Keyman, and Dawnn Lewis, plus an original Gospel-inspired score by Grammy nominee Mali Music (who also plays Jesus Christ in the movie). Revival! is now available on DVD and streaming on demand.
