This weekend’s program will include an encore presentation of our February 2019 with Emmy Award-winning actress Loretta Swit.
Known around the world for her portrayal of Major Margaret Houlihan on M*A*S*H, Loretta has also received numerous other honors throughout her career in recognition for her philanthropy and for her tireless efforts as a champion of the animal kingdom. We will ask Loretta about her work on behalf of all animals; her support of our veterans; how she keeps herself in shape; and why she will never retire. Loretta Swit will join us in our second hour.
Also an accomplished painter, Loretta Swit is co-author, along with Mies Hora, of SwitHeart: The Watercolour Artistry & Animal Activism of Loretta Swit, a collection of sixty-five original paintings and drawings—all done by Loretta herself, and all accompanied by anecdotes and stories about Loretta’s life, career and work on behalf of on animals. All proceeds from the sale of SwitHeart will be donated to Loretta’s endless campaign to end animal suffering and cruelty.
This week’s program will also feature Steve Beverly, professor emeritus of communications arts at Union University (Jackson, TN). Also a television historian, as well as a former news director and on-air correspondent for WBBJ-TV, Steve hosts Steve Beverly’s TV Classics, a weekly three-hour TCM-like festival of classic shows from the 1950s and ‘60s that streams every week from EPlusTV Channel 6 in Jackson. We’ll talk to Steve about his friendships with such game show legends as Bob Barker and Monty Hall; his work at Union University, and how Jackson 24/7 teaches his students “triage” in the broadcast journalism sense of the word; and how the death of Robin Williams inspired Steve to become an advocate for mental health, particularly among TV news professionals. Steve Beverly will join us in our first hour.
A member of the National Association on Mental Illness, Steve Beverly is ready, willing and able to speak to any television news operation in America about depression, as well as recognizing and coping with surviving vulnerabilities to mental illness in one of the most rewarding but highest-stress professions: TV news. Contact Steve directly for more information about the seminars he provides.
