This week’s program will include the conclusion of our three-part interview with Michael Bell, the prolific voice actor whose career in film and TV animation spans more than four decades and several hundred credits, including The Houndcats, Speed Buggy, The Saturday Superstar Movie, The Plastic Man Comedy Adventure Show, SuperFriends, Challenge of the SuperFriends, The Smurfs, The Transformers, The Transformers: The Movie, G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero, G.I. Joe: The Movie, and Voltron: Defender of the Universe.
Michael also has a long list of on-screen acting roles, including a recurring role as Les Crowley, Bobby Ewing’s banker, on Dallas. We’ll ask Michael about that, plus we’ll talk about the time he beat out Davy Jones for a singing role, as well as how he landed the voice of the Parkay tub (“Butter!”) on the long-running series of commercials for Parkay margarine. All that, and more, when Michael Bell joins us in our second hour.
Also joining us this week will be author and speaker Steven Taibbi. Steven owned his own production company for more than twenty-five years, where he wrote copy for radio and TV commercials, and worked as a director, producer, and director of photography for both corporate and commercial video and film.
Steven is also a survivor in every sense of the word: He was born cyanotic—meaning, his heart was not pumping efficiently enough to properly oxygenate his blood. If that wasn’t enough, Steven was born with three birth defects—all of which required operations from a very young age and continuing throughout his life, including two open heart surgeries and two heart transplants. Each of these procedures brought on feelings of gratitude and survivors guilt, which Steven recounts in Grateful Guilt: Living in the Shadow of my Heart, a moving new book that also includes many useful coping mechanisms that can help anyone who is facing a serious health challenge, whether you’re a patient or a caregiver. Steven Taibbi will join us in our fist hour.
Plus: Tony Figueroa and Donna Allen bring us This Week in TV History, while Greg Ehrbar discusses some of the many reincarnations of Jonny Quest that are now available on Blu-ray.
