Penny Peyser’s interest in acting began at age six, when her father let her skip school one day to see a Broadway performance of Julie Andrews in My Fair Lady. From there, she started performing in grade school, high school and college before gaining notice as The Girl in the original off-Broadway production of Hot L Baltimore. That led Penny to a memorable film role opposite Dustin Hoffman in All the President’s Men, followed by steady work in film and television, including The Tony Randall Show, the original The In-Laws with Peter Falk and Alan Arkin, and a co-starring role opposite Jack Warden and John Rubinstein in the fondly remembered CBS series Crazy Like a Fox.

Over the past decade Penny has morphed into the world of documentary filmmaking, including Trying to Get Good, the critically acclaimed portrait of trumpet player extraordinaire Jack Sheldon, and Stillpoint, a very personal documentary that takes you inside the world of a Zen community in Santa Cruz, California. She also has a fun web series that we’ll tell you about when Penny Peyser joins us in our second hour.

Also this week: Screenwriter, filmmaker and TV and film historian Gary Gerani (Pumpkinhead, Vampirella, Fantastic Television) will join us for a remembrance of Billy Goldenberg (above right), the Emmy-winning composer who passed away earlier this year at age 84. Known for his work in film and television, including the early work of Steven Spielberg (including Duel, the pilot for Night Gallery, and the premiere episode of Columbo), the themes for such series as Kojak, Rhoda, Banacek, and Harry O, and the scores for such acclaimed made-for-TV movies and miniseries as The Queen of the Stardust Ballroom (for which he won one of his four Emmys), King, Rage of Angels, and Ransom for a Dead Man (the second pilot for Columbo), Goldenberg also collaborated with such stars as Barbra Streisand, Elvis Presley, Nichols and May, and Beatrice Arthur.

Currently editing a documentary about the life and career of Goldenberg, Gary Gerani had a friendship with Billy that spanned several decades. We’ll talk about that, plus Gary will tell us about the 50th anniversary Blu-ray release of Fear No Evil and Ritual of Evil, the highly acclaimed made-for-TV movies starring Louis Jourdan that also marked Goldenberg’s first works as a full-length film composer. In many respects, Goldenberg’s work on Fear No Evil and Ritual of Evil set the tone for the distinctive sounds of many other supernatural thrillers that aired on television during the 1970s. Gary Gerani will join us in our first hour.

Plus: Music and TV historian Geoffrey Mark will join us as we remember singer/songwriters Helen Reddy and Mac Davis and the imprint they each left on the worlds of music and television.
