This weekend’s show will feature two of the busiest character actors in film and TV today.
The son of a policeman in the South Bronx of New York, Robert Clohessy has played many police officers and law enforcement officials throughout his career, including Correctional Officer Sean Murphy on Oz, Warden Boss James Neary on Boardwalk Empire (a role for which Robert won a Screen Actors Guild award as part of the show’s ensemble cast) and, currently, Lieutenant Sid Gormley on Blue Bloods—the long-running Friday night police drama starring Tom Selleck that recently launched its tenth season on CBS.
We’ll ask Robert about working alongside Selleck and why the family dinner sequences play a major role in the longevity and appeal of Blue Bloods. We’ll also talk about some of his other screen credits, which include Ohara (with Pat Morita), The Score (with Marlon Brando), All My Children, Boy Meets World, Hill Street Blues, and Perry Mason: The Case of the Fatal Fashion. Robert Clohessy will join us in our second hour.
Currently seen, along with Danny McBride and John Goodman, in the Sunday night HBO series The Righteous Gemstones, James DuMont has also a direct line to the history of television: His great-uncle Allen DuMont created the cathode ray tube—the picture tube that not only made watching TV possible on television sets, but ushered in the entire industry of television itself—including the short-lived DuMont television network, the often forgotten “fourth network” that competed with NBC, CBS, and ABC during the first decade of the medium. Among the many stars who first became prominent through the DuMont network was Jackie Gleason.
James DuMont’s other film and TV credits include Treme, The Butler, Dallas Buyers Club, Stranger Things 2, Men of a Certain Age, Law & Order: True Crime: The Menendez Murder, Patriots Day, Jurassic World, Trumbo, When the Game Stands Tall and the Hank Williams biopic I Saw The Light. He will soon be seen opposite Mark Walhberg in Wonderland—the Netflix feature, directed by Peter Berg, based on Robert B. Parker’s Spenser novel—and a thought-provoking independent feature called Designed to Kill. James DuMont will also join us in our second hour.
Also this week: We’ll take you to Jamestown, New York—the birthplace of Lucille Ball—during our first hour as we welcome Gary Hahn, director of marketing for both The National Comedy Center and the Lucille Ball Desi Arnaz Museum (both of which are based in Jamestown). Plus: We’ll continue our celebration of the fiftieth anniversary of The Brady Bunch series and franchise with a look at the latest Brady reincarnation, A Very Brady Renovation.
