One of the finest characters actors and action movie villains of our generation, Patrick Kilpatrick has made his presence known in more than 170 films and TV shows over the past quarter-century, including The Replacement Killers, Eraser, Last Man Standing, Under Siege 2: Dark Territory, The Presidio, Last Stand at Saber River, Crossfire Trail, The Quick and the Dead, Minority Report, Death Warrant, Criminal Minds, 24, Shark, Cold Case, Dr. Quinn: Medicine Woman, Nip/Tuck, Burn Notice, Chuck, all three incarnations of CSI, and all three versions of NCIS.

As an actor, Patrick has been killed, beaten up or jailed by some of the biggest names in movies and television, including Sean Connery, Chow Yun-Fat, Arnold Schwarzenegger, James Caan, Tom Selleck, Bruce Willis, Steven Seagal, Mark Harmon, Sam Elliott, and Kiefer Sutherland. What you may not know is that—in real life—Patrick almost died at least three times before he turned seventeen, including severe bouts with asthma, allergies, and nearly being stabbed to death by his own mother.

Fortunately, Patrick also discovered his passion for the written word at a very young age. His memoir, Dying for Living: Sins and Confessions of a Hollywood Villain and Libertine Patriot, is a rollicking yet often poignant recounting of his volatile upbringing that also includes a searing, often hilarious, and occasionally scandalous behind-the-scenes look at working with Hollywood’s elite. Patrick Kilpatrick will join us in our second hour.

Joe Mantegna had this to say about Dying for Living: “You may love it. You may hate it. But you will never forget it.” (And having read Patrick’s book ourselves, we agree.) Volume I of Dying for Living is available now in hardcover, as an eBook, and as an audiobook; Volume II is scheduled for release later in 2019. For our listeners in Denver, Colorado, Patrick Kilpatrick is scheduled to appear at the Tattered Cover Bookstore on Wednesday, Aug. 28.

This week’s program will also include a conversation with Christopher Lennertz, the award-winning producer, composer and conductor whose numerous contributions to television, film and video games include Marvel’s Agent Carter, ABC’s Galavant, the Netflix version of Lost in Space, and the hit movie version of Alvin and the Chipmunks.

Christopher’s latest feature is the animated musical Ugly Dolls starring Kelly Clarkson, and for which he created original songs with Glenn Slater, the lyricist for Disney’s Tangled. Ugly Dolls: The Movie is playing in theaters everywhere, while the soundtrack for Ugly Dolls is available wherever music is sold. Christopher Lennertz will join us in our first hour.

Plus: We’ll continue our special coverage of recent events from the floor of The Hollywood Museum, including interviews with singer, actress and producer Barbara van Orden (L.A.’s Next Great Stage Star: 2019), actor and author Richard Pryor Jr. (In a Pryor Life), and Golden Girls historian Jim Colucci, author of a forthcoming book about The Love Boat.
