The 92nd Academy Awards will be presented on Sunday, Feb. 9, while the nominees for Best Picture include Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, the love letter to 1969 Los Angeles that also earned nods for Best Actor (Leonardo DiCaprio), Best Supporting Actor (Brad Pitt) and Best Director and Best Original Screenplay (Quentin Tarantino). With that in mind, film journalist Ian Nathan will join us this week for an in-depth look at Tarantino’s career.

One of the best known film writers in the UK, Ian is the author of QUENTIN TARANTINO: The Iconic Filmmaker and His Work, an engaging new book that not only explores the whole of Tarantino’s career—from his early writing on such screenplays as True Romance and Natural Born Killers to his break-out directorial debut, Reservoir Dogs; from the career-defining Pulp Fiction to such later efforts as Kill Bill Volumes 1 and 2, Inglourious Basterds, and Django Unchained, and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood—but has a visually arresting design that mimics the director’s singular approach to filmmaking, including a slew of behind-the-scenes photographs. We’ll talk about what it means for a movie to be “Tarantinoesque”; how certain TV shows from the 1960s and 1970s helped shape the Tarantino style; and why Once Upon a Time in Hollywood and Jackie Brown are, in many ways, companion movies. Ian Nathan will join us in our first hour.

Also this week: We’ll bring you special remote coverage of the recent ceremony at the Hollywood Museum that celebrated the 40th anniversary of Knots Landing by unveiling a new lobby exhibit featuring costumes worn by series stars Michele Lee, Joan Van Ark, and Donna Mills. Now open to the public through Wednesday, Apr. 1, the Knots Landing exhibit is the latest addition to the Museum’s popular ongoing Lobby Series, which pays tribute to legendary individuals in entertainment and iconic TV series.

TV Confidential was on hand for the unveiling ceremony, which included remarks by the three leading ladies of Knots Landing: Michele Lee, Joan Van Ark, and Donna Mills. We’ll play audio highlights of the event during our first hour.

Ida Lupino biographer Mary Anderson

This week’s program will also include a replay of our February 2015 conversation with Ida Lupino biographer Mary Anderson as we celebrate the birthday of the iconic actress and pioneering film director. (Lupino was born on February 4, 1918.) Mary’s books include Ida Lupino: Beyond the Camera, the story of Ida’s life and career (in Ida’s own words); The Making of The Hitch-Hiker: Illustrated, a behind-the-scenes look at the classic 1953 film noir thriller directed by Lupino; and Portrait of a Soap Star: The Emily McLaughlin Story.

Besides talking about Ida Lupino, we will hear from Ida herself, in the form of audio highlights from a 1991 interview with author A.M. Sperber in which Ida talks about her dear friend Humphrey Bogart. This conversation was among the last formal interviews that Lupino gave before her death in 1995. Mary Anderson will join us in our second hour.
