Synopsis. In Greenfield, Nebraska, Erskine and Rhodes search for a murderous psychopath who seduces wealthy women, marries them for their money before killing them, then hides their bodies in secret vaults that he had built into their homes. A notation in the suspect’s FBI file reveals an obsession with orphanages. That clue leads Erskine to the Indiana boys center where the suspect was raised after being abandoned by his parents as a baby. Believing that the killer still has no knowledge of his real identity, the inspector uses that information to flush his quarry out in the open. The question is whether Erskine can prevent the man from claiming another victim.
