  1. THE LEGEND OF JOHN RIM
    Original Airdate: Dec. 31, 1967

Synopsis. Escaped felon John Rim (played by Tom Skerritt) seeks refuge in the dense swampland near his hometown of Orkin, Louisiana, where he manages to avoid detection despite a statewide police dragnet. Because Rim knows the terrain better than anyone else, Erskine realizes that the best way to capture him is by employing two or three agents, versus a small army. For that strategy to work, however, the inspector must earn the trust and cooperation of the local “swamp people”—a tight-knit community that has elevated Rim to hero status ever since he saved a busload of children from drowning.

“The Legend of John Rim” was the first episode filmed for the third season. By extension, that makes it the first episode that William Reynolds filmed after joining the cast as Special Agent Tom Colby. Indeed, Act I includes a sequence in which Erskine introduces Colby as “my new associate” to the S.R.A. in Orkin, Louisiana, where the story takes place.
