Synopsis. Hired by an insurance company to investigate a suspicious accident at the Brent Air Health Club, Rockford stumbles onto a gun-running operation masterminded by club owner Ciro Lucas. Although arrested by federal agents (and, later, hassled by Lieutenant Chapman), Rockford finds his biggest threat is Murray Rosner, an incredibly paranoid informant who has been working with the FBI on the Lucas operation for more than eight months. Kennedy in June 1968. According to Mark, John Shear’s comments in that video not only lend credence to the possibility that Sirhan may have been used as a fall guy by the mob for the assassination of RFK, but help make the case that Sirhan should receive a new trial in light of these new revelations. (Though John Shear died in December 2023, Mark interviewed Shear’s son, Michael, in December 2024; Michael Shear provided confirmation of his father’s account.) THE SPANISH DANCER

Synopsis. While peddling goods in the New Mexico mining camp of Riverhead, Bart and Gentleman Jack Darby fall for Elena Grande (played by Adele Mara), an exotic dancer who hopes one day to buy back the ranch that her family once owned. When Bart wins a flooded mine from crooked camp owner John Wilson, he enlists Jack and Elena’s help in an elaborate scheme to drain the mine at Wilson’s expense.

Adele Mara was a perfect choice for the title role. A popular pin-up girl earlier in her career, she also performed as a classical Spanish dancer for renowned bandleader Xavier Cugat. Although Mara had danced many times before on film (including her unforgettable performance in the “Seed of Deception” segment of Maverick), this episode marked the first time she performed an actual Spanish dance on film. The dances she performs were authentic dances from the 1876 period.

Original Airdate: Dec. 13, 1970

Synopsis. In San Diego, a pair of prescription sunglasses found on the beach near a Navy depot puts Erskine on the trail of John McElroy (played by Don Grady), the playboy son of millionaire industrialist Doug McElroy (played by Murray Hamilton). John’s reckless behavior causes an accident that severely injures a Navy petty officer, while Doug is embroiled in a money-laundering operation fronted by a Mafia hitman.
