  1. THE HITCHHIKER

Synopsis. After robbing a bank in Albuquerque, New Mexico, U.S. Army private Jerry Williams (played by Michael Douglas) picks up a hitchhiker, Mary Anne Collins (played by Donna Mills), a daughter from an affluent family in Omaha, Nebraska—and a misfit in her own way. After shooting Mary Anne’s boyfriend and leaving him for dead, Williams takes the girl to Flagstaff, Arizona, where he steals his brother’s car, along with $400 in cash, then robs a jewelry salesman at gunpoint. The trail leads Erskine to Phoenix, where the inspector must rescue Mary Anne from a gang of renegade bikers who want the samples of priceless jewelry that are now in Williams’ possession.
