Joyce Bulifant will join us this weekend to help us pay tribute to Ron Masak, the actor best known to TV audiences for playing Sheriff Mort Metzger on Murder, She Wrote (CBS, 1984-1996), as well as his numerous appearances in such films and TV series as Ice Station Zebra, Harper Valley PTA, Second Effort, The Rockford Files, The Monkees, Bewitched, Showoffs, and I Dream of Jeannie. Ron Masak passed away last Thursday, Oct. 20 at the age of eighty-six.
Joyce Bulifant co-starred with Ron Masak on Love Thy Neighbor (ABC, 1973), the short-lived but nonetheless acclaim sitcom that captivated audiences in the summer of 1973, plus they worked together on many charitable functions in the years after that show. Joyce will share a few memories of Ron Masak when she joins us in our first hour.

As it happens, we had an opportunity to interview Ron Masak on TV Confidential back in October 2010. At the time we spoke to him, Ron had just released his memoirs, I’ve Met All My Heroes from A to Z, a heartfelt tribute to some of the many people from all walks of life that Ron met in his career who had an impact not only on his life, but the world in general—people such as Neil Armstrong, Lucille Ball, Jack Benny, Roy Campanella, Joe DiMaggio, Rogers Hornsby, Rock Hudson, Cary Grant, Audie Murphy, Elvis Presley, Alan Shepard, John Wayne, NFL Hall of Fame coach Vince Lombardi, legendary Dodgers manager Tommy Lasorda, country western artist Garth Brooks, and General Norman Schwartzkopf.
Ron’s book is one of the most self-effacing memoirs we’ve ever read. You’ll understand why when we replay our conversation with Ron Masak in our second hour.
Also this week: We will welcome actress, writer, and stunt artist Kayla Adams. After starting her career in movies as a stunt artist or stunt coordinator, Kayla successfully transitioned to on-screen roles in film and television, including appearances in The Actress Diaries, Night of the Wild, You Are Here, and as Kelly the waitress opposite Ryan Reynolds in Deadpool.
In her latest film, Hex, Kayla stars as a member of a sky diving team that attempts to execute a dangerous formation jump known as “The Hex.” When one of the team members disappears in mid air while practicing the stunt, Kayla’s character must navigate a lot of weird and scary stuff, including the possibility that The Hex may be cursed. Hex is available now on DVD and for streaming on demand on all major platforms. Kayla Adams will join us in our first hour.
Plus: Nick Santa Maria will join Greg Ehrbar in our first hour for the first of a special two-part DVD report that focuses on recent Blu-ray titles featuring Abbott and Costello, including the digitally remastered re-release of Jack and the Beanstalk (1952). Nick is the co-author of The Annotated Abbott and Costello: A Complete Viewer’s Guide to the Comedy Team and Their 38 Films, a new book that becomes available in December from McFarland Books.
