Synopsis. A degenerate musician (played by Robert Walker, Jr.), disillusioned at the United States and angry over being drafted, plants a bomb inside the Federal Law Building as a sign of protest. A quick-acting guard locates the bomb and removes it from the building, but is severely injured in the blast. To avert a public relations disaster, the Bureau wants to nab the culprit quickly. Erskine’s only clues are a broken guitar string used to secure the explosive and a camera case that contained the bomb—while his only witness is a blind man visiting from Wisconsin, who alerted the guard after hearing a strange ticking sound. The blind man’s keen sense of smell provides the inspector with a vital clue just as the culprit attempts to blow up the building again.
