  1. SKY ON FIRE
    Original Airdate: Feb. 26, 1967

Synopsis. At a remote cabin in the Madison National Forest in Colorado, George Bellamy (played by Bradford Dillman), an assistant cashier at a metals company, agrees to a meeting with Carl Platt (played by Charles Grodin), an ex-convict whose younger sister, Mindy (Lynda Day George), was impregnated by Bellamy after a brief affair. Though Bellamy says he will support the baby, Platt demands $10,000 or else he’ll tell Bellamy’s wife, Connie, about his infidelity. Bellamy takes a swing at Platt, knocking him against the fireplace—and causing a fatal blow to the head. To cover up the crime, Bellamy sets fire to the cabin, causing a massive blaze that burns Platt’s body beyond recognition. Though Bellamy believes he is in the clear, a charred receipt found in Platt’s wallet puts Erskine on the trail of Mindy, her doctor, and, eventually, Bellamy. Complicating the investigation: When Bellamy realizes he is under suspicion of murder, he begins setting additional fires in the area in a desperate attempt to convince authorities that the fire that consumed Platt was the work of an arsonist.
