Julie Adams passed away Sunday, Feb. 3 at the age of 92. Known to three generations of horror movie fans as intrepid scientist Kay Lawrence in The Creature from The Black Lagoon, she enjoyed a long and successful career in film, stage and television that spanned more than five decades, from the Golden Age of Hollywood, the Golden Age of Television, and beyond.
You might recall that we were graced with the presence of Julie Adams back in January 2012. She, along with her son Mitchell Danton, not only shared a few memories about the making of The Creature from the Black Lagoon, but her spoke of her experiences working alongside such legends as Jimmy Stewart, Rock Hudson, Andy Griffith, Angela Lansbury, Barbara Stanwyck, Elvis Presley, Dennis Hopper and Raymond Burr. We’ll replay our conversation with Julie Adams in our second hour.
If you have not already done so, please read Julie’s memoir, The Lucky Southern Star (or listen to the audiobook edition). Besides all the great stories about her journey as an actress, Julie’s life story is a reminder that, with hard work and preparation, all of us can make our dreams come true.
Also this week: Emmy Award-winning and Grammy Award-nominated writer, producer, performer, author, Lucille Ball historian and Ella Fitzgerald biographer Geoffrey Mark will pay tribute to Carol Channing and Kaye Ballard. Geoff not only greatly admired the work of these two dear ladies, he knew them both personally as friends. Geoffrey Mark will join us in our first hour.
Geoffrey Mark’s latest book, Ella: A Biography of the Legendary Ella Fitzgerald, is now available in paperback. The paperback edition includes the two-CD set featuring thirty-nine studio/live tracks of Ella Fitzgerald in her prime, all personally selected by Geoff himself.
