THE EYE OF THE NEEDLE

Synopsis. In Utah, the arrest of convicted bank robber Jimmy Vaughn draws the Bureau into the search for Herbert Barth (played by Richard Kiley), a brilliant surgeon who recently took a leave of absence from his practice after receiving threats on his life. Though Barth revealed his destination to no one, he left for the Cascade Mountains of Washington state, where Vaughn and two other men attempted to kidnap him after previously sending Barth letters that tried to extort $200,000 from him. (Barth’s wallet, along with a roll of undeveloped camera film, was found on Vaughn’s person at the time of his search.) While Erskine and Colby piece together clues that could lead to Barth’s whereabouts, the doctor tries to escape Paul Menard, a convict with priors for armed robbery and aggravated assault trio. Menard also happens to be an expert tracker.
