Synopsis. While investigating the flight of Bobby Porter (played by Earl Holliman), an escaped inmate from the San Bernadino federal prison who also robbed a bank of $100,000, Erskine discovers an elaborate smuggling operation based in San Francisco that transports interstate fugitives to South America. When the Bureau learns that Porter was spotted in San Jose (two hours south of the City by the Bay) after stealing a car and killing a man, Erskine suspects that the fugitive is headed for San Francisco in hopes of leaving the country. To capture Porter and break up the ring, the inspector poses as a wanted safecracker who is also seeking passage out of the country.
