  1. A GATHERING OF SHARKS
    Original Airdate: Jan. 14, 1973

Synopsis. Erskine surmises that the theft of the Boharne diamond from the Oregon home of retired millionaire Jacob Simpson Crane may have been an inside job—a theory that proves correct when latent fingerprints identify one of the thieves as Carla Payne (played by Jessica Walter), an ex-convict who visited the Crane home while posing as an interior decorator. Payne wants Crane to meet her in Pebble Beach, California to make the swap. Crane, however, cannot make the trip because of a recent stroke. To complete the transaction, Erskine poses as Everet Halladay, an associate of Crane. Besides the usual risks, the charade poses a unique challenge: Halladay is a champion golfer.
