Synopsis. In Los Angeles on another case, Erskine oversees the raid of an apartment complex where bank robbers Scott Martin (played by Ralph Meeker) and Ralph Daiker (played by John Milford) seek refuge, along with two other gang members. Erskine tangled with Martin four years earlier, while Daiker’s deadly M.O.—using an ice pick as a murder weapon—earned him his nickname, The Ice Man. The operation hits a snag, however, when the inspector learns that the ten-year-old son of Martin’s girlfriend is also on the premises—and that Martin is using the boy as a shield. Knowing that Martin murders hostages once he no longer needs them, Erskine must somehow get the boy to safety.
Based on a Bureau case from 1953 involving the murder of a federal prisoner who had just been paroled from Alcatraz, “The Raid” focuses on a then-new aspect of FBI procedure that had not been widely known to the public: When circumstances call for the Bureau to conduct a raid on criminal activity, the person in charge of that raid is the senior agent in the location where the raid is to take place.
