Synopsis. A Chinese general wants Adam Rogers, a former U.S. diplomat, to provide a copy of the Forsythe memo, a secret intelligence document that outlines American countermoves in the event of Chinese aggression in the Far East. (Knowing that Rogers lost his post after opposing U.S. policy in Vietnam, the Chinese government believes that he will be sympathetic to their cause.) After Rogers reports the matter to his superiors, the State Department wants Erskine to infiltrate the spy ring by impersonating Rogers. But the inspector must act quickly. The Chinese want answers in less than a week, while the ramifications of the matter could lead to nuclear war.
