Synopsis. In San Francisco to probe the murder of Communist informant Lester Milton near a restricted military zone, Erskine has just three days to determine whether the killing is connected to an underground militant cell in the Bay Area and a possible plot to sabotage the transportation of a shipment of U.S. war supplies to the Orient. Forensic evidence puts the inspector on the trail of Conrad Letterman (played by Michael Rennie), a renowned Party leader whose cultured habits, including Danish beer and Akvavit, prove vital to the investigation.
