When she last joined us on TV Confidential, Gabrielle Stone was experiencing a professional high, having made her directorial debut and won several awards and much critical acclaim for her short film It Happened Again Last Night. Behind the scenes, however, Gabrielle was experiencing a lot of personal turmoil and emotional upheaval, including a separation and eventual divorce from her husband after she found out he’d been cheating on her.

Later that summer, Gabrielle met another man, fell madly in love, and was about to embark on a romantic month-long vacation in Italy with her new love when he shockingly told her at the last minute that he did not want her to go with him—that he needed to go by himself. That left Gabrielle with two choices: Stay home and be miserable, or take a chance and travel for a month on her own. Gabrielle not only made her trip, but found herself thrust into a world of discovery that helped her regain control of her life. We’ll ask Gabrielle about her adventure in Europe, plus we’ll talk about After Emma, her upcoming collaboration with her mom (actress Dee Wallace, pictured left), and more when she joins us in our second hour.

Gabrielle Stone’s new book, Eat, Pray, #FML, asks the question “What do you do when you find your life has fallen apart and your heart has been ripped out and stepped on twice in two months?” In Gabrielle’s case, the answer was to get out of her comfort zone by going on a wild adventure, doing a lot of soul searching, and ultimately learning how to love and accept herself with the help of two tools: A Thought Onion and something she calls a “self-love” cocktail. Gabrielle’s story will resonate with anyone who has ever experienced an emotional gut punch—whether you’re male or female, and no matter what your age.

This week’s show will also include a return appearance by Marc Cushman, award-winning screenwriter, director, producer, documentary maker and, without question, the definitive chronicler of all things Star Trek and Gene Roddenberry. Last time Marc was on, we discussed his biography on Gene Roddenberry that particularly focused on the career of the Great Bird of the early 1970s. This week we’ll take a deep dive into the early career of Gene Roddenberry and the development of Star Trek itself.

In the early 1980s, Marc obtained permission from Roddenberry and Robert H. Justman, one of the producers of the original Star Trek, to write the definitive history of Star Trek: The Original Series. Along the way they provided Marc with access to the production files, personal papers of Gene Roddenberry, and other documentation that had never been shared with the public. The end result is a three-volume series of books, called These Are The Voyages: Star Trek The Original Series, each of which not only provides a comprehensive biography/history of each season of the original Star Trek, but transports you back in time to the era in which the original series was made as much as any book possibly can. Marc Cushman will join us in our first hour; among other things, we’ll talk about how Roddenberry’s ambition and desire for excellence both helped and hurt him throughout his career.

Volume 1 of These Are The Voyages: Star Trek The Original Series was recently updated and expanded to include an additional eighty pages of information. Not only that, it is also available as an audiobook.
