Show No. 443, Segment 2 with guests Will Ryan, Nick Santa Maria and Michael Schlesinger
Original Airdates: Mar. 22-24, 2019
Ed and Greg Ehrbar welcome actors Will Ryan and Nick Santa Maria and writer, producer and director Michael Schlesinger (The Misadventures of Biffle and Shooster). Recently named “Best DVD of the year” by Bottom Shelf Movies, The Misadventures of Biffle and Shooster is a collection of five 1930s-style comedy shorts that pay homage to The Three Stooges, Abbott and Costello, Laurel and Hardy and other vintage comedy teams from the Golden Era of Hollywood.
Segment 2, Part 2: How Biffle and Shooster Pays Homage to It’s a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World: Michael Schlesinger, writer, producer and director of The Misadventures of Biffle and Shooster DVD release, tells listeners the back story of the 1962-style “reunion” interview that Will and Nick perform in character as Biffle and Shooster as part of the extra features for the DVD. Nominated for two Rondo Awards (including a nod for Best Package of DVD Extras), the Biffle and Shooster DVD also includes an additional short (“First Things Last”), more than an hour of bloopers and outtakes, a Spanish language version of one of the shorts, and more.
Segment 2, Part 3: The Benny Biffle Birthday Bash plus Biffle and Shooster: The Book: Ed and Greg ask Will Ryan and Nick Santa Maria about their upcoming live performance as Biffle and Shooster at the Coffee Gallery Backstage in Altadena, CA on Sunday, March 31 beginning at 7pm. The Misadventures of Biffle and Shooster DVD will be available for purchase that evening, as will the latest issue of the Biffle and Shooster comic book and the new book, The Biffle and Shooster Portable Guide to Etiquette. For tickets and more information, call (626) 798-6236 or visit the Calendar page at CoffeeGallery.com.
Segment 2, Part 4: Biffle and Shooster Sing! Ed and Greg ask Nick Santa Maria about how he approached playing the Genie for Aladdin: A Musical Spectacular without emulating Robin Williams. Plus: Nick and Will Ryan perform “How Do You Do, Little Alice?” live in the studio. The Misadventures of Biffle and Shooster is available on DVD through Kino Lorber, while four of the Biffle and Shooster comedy shorts (“The Biffle Murder Case,” “Imitation of Wife,” “Schmo Boat,” “Bride of Finklestein”) are also available for viewing on demand on Amazon, Vudu and other streaming platforms under the umbrella title The Adventures of Biffle and Shooster.
