    Original Airdate: Feb. 25, 1973

Synopsis. An assassination attempt on prominent prosecuting attorney William Sanders (played by Roger Perry) puts Erskine on the trail of Alex Tanner (played by Richard Jordan), a contract killer hired by syndicate racketeer Albert Dirks (Tim O’Connor) to assassinate Sanders. Some years before, Sanders convicted Dirks on a gambling violation—an ordeal that Dirks believes led to the death of his wife. Though Dirks calls off the hit after getting pressure from the mob, Tanner—a tightly wound perfectionist with a peculiar habit of cracking walnuts with his mouth—is determined to finish the job. Erskine must apprehend Tanner before he tries to kill Sanders again.
