Known for his leading roles in such films as Return of the Fly, Master of the World, and Tales of Terror, not to mention the voice of Sergeant Tibbs in 101 Dalmations, David Frankham also worked steadily in television for more than three decades, including such classic shows as Alfred Hitchcock Presents, Maverick, Thriller, 77 Sunset Strip, The F.B.I., The Outer Limits and the original Star Trek. His memoir, Which One Was David?, is filled with great stories about his film and TV career, as well as his friendships with the likes of Vincent Price, Basil Rathbone, Rock Hudson, Dirk Bogarde, Angela Lansbury, Roger Corman, William Wyler, Ida Lupino and Barbara Stanwyck.
David recently completed principal recording for a stop-motion animated puppet version of The House of The Seven Gables, while his audio commentary on Master of the World is part of The Vincent Price Collection III Blu-ray release available from Shout! Factory. We’ll discuss these projects, and more, when David Frankham joins us in the studio during our second hour. Actor Jonathan Dixon will co-host the hour.
Our first hour this week show will include an excerpt of our May 2017 conversation with prolific, eclectic television director Ralph Senensky, whose many credits include The Waltons, The F.B.I., the original Star Trek and the original Twilight Zone. Among other topics, we’ll discuss “aesthetic distance,” a principle that Ralph first learned as a stage director at the Pasadena Playhouse. Plus: An encore presentation of our conversation with Greg Ehrbar about Cop Rock and the career of iconic television writer and producer Steven Bochco.
