  1. THE TEST
    Original Airdate: Feb. 20, 1972

Synopsis. In Portland, Oregon, former lumberyard owner John Logan (played John Colicos) kidnaps George Hale (played by Harold Gould), the prominent businessman whom Logan blames for his financial ruin. Logan demands a ransom of $250,000, but doesn’t realize that Hale has sustained severe losses in the stock market and no longer has that kind of capital. Erskine’s effort to rescue Hale faces two challenges: (1) The inspector must rely on Hale’s ineffectual son, Paul (Robert Foxworth), who promptly disappears after he was supposed to obtain the ransom funds from the bank, and (2) When the compartment of the abandoned ship where Hale is held captive begins to flood, Erskine must locate the kidnap victim quickly before he drowns.
