The legendary “scream queen” who is also known around the world as the mom on E.T.: The Extraterrestrial, Dee Wallace has enjoyed one of the most enviable careers in movies and television that any actor can ever have, including such horror classics as Cujo, The Howling, The Frighteners, and Critters. Also an accomplished teacher, Dee has taught in many capacities throughout her life, including the public school system, in her own dance and acting studios, and on her weekly radio show, Conscious Creation, which emphasizes the principles of empowerment.
Having recently completed production of After the Dawn, Dee recently reached an important milestone in her acting career: She now has two hundred film and TV credits, making her the only living actress right now who can make that claim. Currently seen in the Amazon kids series Just Add Magic, Dee has four other movies coming out soon—one of which, After Emma, is a collaboration with her daughter, actress/director Gabrielle Stone. We’ll talk about that, and more, when Dee Wallace joins in our second hour.
Dee Wallace can also be seen in Critters Attack, a reimagining of the 1986 horror classic Critters that is now available on Blu-ray, DVD, and digital on demand; Red Christmas (now available on Netflix), a horror movie that Dee also produced, and which will remind you somewhat of Cujo; and Rob Zombie’s 3 from Hell. The unrated version of 3 From Hell will be released in more than 900 theaters across the country on Sept. 16-17-18.
This week’s program will also feature Susan McCray, one of the first female casting directors in network television, and a renaissance woman whose life and career also spans the worlds of music and radio. Susan’s father was Oscar-winning composer Harry Sukman, while Susan began her career as a recording artist whose hit records included “Say a Prayer for Michael.” In the world of television, she was the casting director for such popular shows as Kung Fu, Happy Days, The Odd Couple, Laverne and Shirley, and, beginning with Little House on the Prairie, many of the shows and TV-movies produced by and starring Michael Landon.
We’ll talk to Susan about her many years working alongside Landon, and how he embodied family-oriented programming. We’ll also tell you about her new radio show, Kaleidoscope, a Sunday morning magazine program that provides listeners with the latest in the worlds of music, Hollywood, makeup, fashion, and more. Susan McCray will join us in our first hour.
Susan McCray is also the producer of Kent McCray: Love, Life and Television, a forthcoming new documentary about the life and career of her late husband, Kent McCray, producer of Bonanza, The High Chapparal, Little House on the Prairie and other TV series, and also a longtime friend and collaborator of Michael Landon. Kent McCray: Love, Life and Television is scheduled for release in December 2019, as part of the Season Four DVD package of The High Chapparal.
