Synopsis. The investigation into a stolen consignment of platinum takes Erskine and Colby to San Francisco, where they learn that an renowned international fence has arranged for a liaison to purchase the shipment from the three people responsible for the theft. Because the deal must be consummated within forty-eight hours, Erskine poses as the buyer to recover the cargo. What the inspector doesn’t realize: The thieves plan to murder the buyer after they’ve been paid.
